#1037 closed Bug (duplicate)

"Time remaining" algorithm not "one size fits all" modem speeds

Reported by: jidanni Owned by: charles
Priority: Low Milestone: None Set
Component: libtransmission Version: 1.21
Severity: Minor Keywords:

Gentlemen, your "hours remaining" estimate is too jumpy.

7 hours, 1 hour, 3 hours...

One has to stare at it for a while to make one's own estimate, averaging your estimates in our head.

The problem lies in the sampling interval: you need to make it over a longer stretch of time, at least here with my 256K/64 ADSL.

Or at least give the user some preference to adjust the sampling window (-- probably better than some super advanced algorithm that takes in account how slow our rural modem is.)

Or go whole hog and report three different estimates, like some kind of pork bellies market futures :-)
