#1322 closed Translation (fixed)

Possibility to move translations to a web system like transifex

Transifex Summary

Through a combination of new Web tools, community growth, and better processes, translators can use Fedora Web-based tools to contribute directly to any upstream project, large or small, through one translator-oriented Web interface.

Developers of projects with no existing translation community can easily reach out to Fedora's established community for translations. In turn, the latter can reach out to numerous projects related to Fedora to easily contribute translations.

Such a change will help transmission to get translated to more languages and most important will help translators to easily follow development. You have not to change you current development svn system and will free you from translation commits.

I'm very happy with our current translation status at Launchpad and, although Fedora is the distro I use more than any other, I don't want to switch horses if if means losing the translators that are available via Launchpad.

It would be nice if Fedora, Ubuntu, and the other distros could come up with a joint clearinghouse for this kind of a service.

Charles, a quick note to mention that many people consider such a 'common' clearhouse to be It's an upstream service for translations of open-source software, used by a wide range of software such as MeeGo?, Creative Commons, Mercurial, Django, and Pulseaudio. The benefit it offers is that it commits translations directly to a remote versioning system (popular choices are github, bitbucket, etc).

Besides Fedora and MeeGo?, other software distributions which use Transifex are XFCE, LXDE, Salix. Mandriva announced it will be switching in the next month.

I'm one of the admins there, so if you're looking for an alternative to launchpad and I could help answer any questions, just let me know.
