#1468 closed Bug (fixed)

Speed display is very jumpy

Reported by: KyleK Owned by: charles
Priority: Normal Milestone: 1.41
Component: libtransmission Version: 1.40
Severity: Major Keywords:

Description

Using Transmission-daemon (and Clutch) I noticed that since v1.40 the speed display for torrents is very inconsistent. This can be seen very well on fast torrents: One second it shows a generally high speed, the next it has supposedly dropped to very low values. This goes on for the whole time.

I can't say if the actual download speed is affected by this, it doesn't seem so. I think it's a cosmetical issue.

I am have same problem, but for uploading (more than 100 torrents). Uploading speed changes every seconds to big values.

I haven't tried this at all, but is it possible that its going from ~900 kbps to 1 mbps?

comment:3 Changed 12 years ago by KyleK

No, it stays in the kB/s range. For example, I have a very fast download which goes at about 600kB/s. TM shows that speed, and then it shows maybe 30kB/s. After that it goes up again, and down again.

Do you have a speed limit set?

comment:5 Changed 12 years ago by KyleK

Yes, speed limit is set to 600kB/s.

I mentioned a very fast torrent in my previous post, but I also see this for slower torrents which download at maybe 150kB/s. Their speed also jumps from This max value to something lower like 30kB/s.

I have no speed limits.

possible fix in r7120. I'm not seeing the jumpiness in the first place, so user feedback on r7120 would be most welcome. :)

charles, it is not fix problem for me.

unfortunately it seems as not display issue - I downgrade to 1.34 and on this version transmission upload more traffic for the equal time.

how can I help fix it?

Speed is wrong

I'm not getting accurate speeds now. The status bar shows a lower speed than the one displayed under the torrent.

comment:10 Changed 12 years ago by charles

  • Milestone changed from None Set to 1.41
  • Status changed from new to assigned

better possible fix: r7125. testers are encouraged. :)

comment:12 Changed 12 years ago by Shutnik

with r7125 it looks little better, speed changes not so huge (about 50% less speed jumps), but on 1.34 speed not jumps completely.

Retraction: I think the link two comments up is not a related thread.

I've made a GIF animation (yuck!) to show what I mean by jumpy speeds. It's been done with build r7125, Clutch was set to a 2s refresh.

Attention: The GIF is a whooping 1.7MB, just so you know :)

With the latest svn version (7150, transmission-daemon) it seems Transmission completely ignores any (upload) speed limit, whether it be the global or the per-torrent limit. It just maxes out my line.

I was not able to test if the same happens for download limits.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from assigned to closed

fixed in trunk and 1.4x.

There were a lot of experimental commits so I'm not going to point to a single commit here. About half of the r71xx commits dealt with bandwidth issues, and improving them in many different ways...
