#1581 closed Bug (fixed)

resolve ambiguity between --enable-gtk and --disable-nls

Description

The Wiki claims

nls ... if disabled, it removes the dependancy on gettext and intltool

however running ./configure --disable-nls produces the error messages:

./configure: line 18670: syntax error near unexpected token `0.23,no-xml'
./configure: line 18670: ` IT_PROG_INTLTOOL(0.23,no-xml)'

I didn't expect someone to bite the bait this quickly ;-)

So allow me to ask the following: can you actually build the gtk without gettext and intltool? Or the reverse: does it serve any purpose to have gettext and intltool as dependancy if we're not building the gtk?

however, the configure (.ac) does explicitly remove the intltool dependancy with --disable-nls.

smmalis: I assume you build from svn, coud you try to build from the nightly tarball? Of course, following the Building guidelines.

you cannot build the gtk client without gettext and intltool.

it doesn't serve any purpose to try.

As the author of the --disable-nls patch said,

I also noticed that --enable-gtk --disable-nls does not work. Optionally, we could just force --enable-nls if --enable-gtk, but i dont think its needed as no-one sane would combine --enable-gtk and --disable-nls.

My take on this is that it's just a wiki documentation issue, that the wiki needs to point out that nls is required for the gtk build, and that --disable-nls should only be used for headless situations with the daemon and cli. smmalis, Waldorf, does that sound right to you?
