#1680 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

Built-in crash reporter

Reported by: Biiaru Owned by: livings124

Component: Mac Client Version: 1.42

Description

Transmission should have a crash reporter. On crash, it would ideally gather up the backtrace and the assert from the crash and submit them to trac along with an optional description from the user. (Perhaps it can see if a certain assert has already been posted and just attach the crash report/comment to the already existing ticket, as well?) This would save a lot of time on the end user's part, and would enable you guys to learn about problems as they happen. It can only be good for everybody! (Perhaps even more time can be saved by borrowing some code from Adium? They seem to have their stuff in line.)

Actually, scratch that Adium bit, I misread on http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/1540.

  • Component changed from Transmission to Mac Client
  • Owner set to livings124

Adium is mac-only, so reassigning to Mac client.

Also, Transmission already has this on Ubuntu. :)

Not quite :) That ticket is recommending using the Smart Crash Reports haxie. This ticket is recommending a built-in crash reporter (eg, not one provided externally).

This isn't going to happen.

Why not, if I may ask? It really only seems like a good idea to me, so I'm sure you have some reason that I'm not thinking of.

Implementing this functionality would be a hack at best.
