i mean reorder groups in the transfer window rather than just preferences

Adding this would just make the number of things you can do with dragging too much. What happens if you have groups and transfers selected when dragging? The meaning of dragging should always be the same - reordering.

i don't see how dragging = reordering changes when you can drag groups around. the reason this came up for me was because i wanted to put all of one groups torrents ahead of another's in the queue. i tried dragging the group however found you can't. i later realized you can reorder in the prefs, however it just seems less efficient IMO.

if you have transfers selected while you are dragging the group, i would imagine they would keep their position in the group? isn't that the logical thing?

given that the structure of the queue works not by prioritizing torrents with some sort of value, but just sorting them top to bottom in the main window, i just assumed that this same method could be applied to groups as well, by sorting them top to bottom in the main window. indeed it already is, except you can only change a group's position in prefs.

ps i only reopened the ticket so that my reply would show up - do i even need to do this?

I think you lost me in your explanation. Dragging a torrent into a group divider just changes its groups, otherwise it reorders and, if it's being dragged to another group, changes its group. Any more mixing of the queue and the groups together I think would just cause too much confusion.

And you don't have to reopen to get my attention - there is a trac section for changed tickets.

Lets say you have 3 groups (from top to bottom):

TV shows

If you have set a queue, AFAIK, a torrent in TV Shows will begin before a torrent in Music (assuming they are all 'waiting to start'). If you drag a torrent from Music into TV shows, not only will that torrents group be changed, but it will be higher up in the queue.

In other words, the positioning of the groups is not independent of the order of the queue. If this is the case (I may be wrong), then it would make sense to be able to reorder the groups by some intuitive method (ie dragging), given that the group a torrent is in has some bearing on when it will start in addition to its place in the overall list of torrents.

Use case: i want all my torrents in music to finish before everything else. I could do two things:

  1. drag all the music torrents to the top of the window (removing them from the music group in the process)
  1. go to prefs and change the position of the Music group so that it is above TV shows

OR if my suggestion was implemented, simply drag the music group to the top of the window (torrents in the music group would remain in that group of course).

NB: my understanding of the queue system could be incorrect so if it is, could you explain what is actually going on.

The order of the groups is independent of the queue.

I don't understand how that is the case. Continuing my example above, how would you make a torrent in Music start before one in TV Shows? From my understanding you drag it above, however would this then remove it from the Music group (and possibly into TV shows?)

In other words, how do I make the transfer in TV shows (see attached pic) start before the 3rd transfer in Music? If I try to drag the transfer to the top of the window, T tries to put the transfer into the Music group??

You would have to disable the group view or temporarily add it to the yellow group. There is no solution that is not convoluted/confusing.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
