#2371 closed Enhancement (fixed)

Reserve Action Menu for items in the inspector ("Move Data File To..." goes to context menu)

Description

The Options Menu (the one accessed by the gear button on the torrent icon) and the Contextual Menu (accessed by right-click) have very different contents. User often forgets which option is in which menu. Reasons for selections being placed in one rather than the other are unclear (at least, to this user). For example, looking for "Move Data File To..." I always mistakenly right-click for Contextual Menu.

In addition, the Options Menu can be quite crowded with the file list, even though the Files Inspector handles the file list beautifully.

Proposed solution: reserve the Options Menu for only those items contained in the Options Inspector - then the logic of the options' placement would be clearer. In the Options Menu, remove the file list, and move "Move Data File To..." to the Contextual Menu.

The most radical course would be removing Options Menu entirely. Simpler interface, but doubtless a lot of angry current users.

  • Summary changed from Reserve Options Menu for items contained in the Options Inspector to Reserve Action Menu for items in the inspector ("Move Data File To..." goes to context menu)

It seems that the action menu should contain just those options in the inspector, and the context menu everything else. This would involve just moving "Move Data File To..." to the Contextual Menu. Perhaps it would make sense to put them all in the context menu, but then it would be overcrowded and less useful.

"Move Data File To..." in the contextual menu does nothing as of r9056. It still works from the File menu, though.
