#2373 closed Bug (fixed)

Handle HTTP redirects more gracefully

Description

I was trying to download http://speeddemosarchive.com/torrent/Fallout3_3009_HQ_mp4.torrent as the only torrent in Transmission on a fairly fresh Snow Leopard install. I've already opened up an upload port.

The torrent appears to start, but doesn't find any peers or seeds for a while (perhaps 3-5 minutes or so). After that time, I get a yellow /!\ badge on the icon on the left, and "Tracker returned a warning: Announce failed: tracker gave HTTP Response Code 302 (Found)" shows up underneath the download progress meter.

  • Milestone changed from None Set to 1.75
  • Status changed from new to assigned
  • Summary changed from HTTP 302 (Found) and no download in Snow Leopard, but works fine in Leopard to Handle HTTP redirects more gracefully
  • Type changed from Bug to Enhancement

It looks like what's happening that Transmission got the redirect message and followed it, which is what should happen.

The reason you didn't get any peers or seeds for the first 3-5 minutes is that it took that long for the tracker to respond, which is unusual but not unheard of.

The only real problem I see here is that we're wasting users' attention by popping up the yellow /!\ warning for something mundane like a tracker redirect message. We ought to log it for completeness' sake, but IMO it doesn't rise to the level of something that needs notification in the main window, particularly not as a warning.
