#2476 closed Bug (worksforme)

Transmission is sustaining extremely large amounts of tcp connections

Reported by: BigBossman Owned by: charles
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: libtransmission Version: 1.75+
Severity: Normal Keywords:
Cc:

Description

When Transmission has started and is running, right now I'm connected to around 45 peers, my tcp connections are around 800+, as soon as transmission is closed this drops to the operating amount of around 50. The number of tcp connections always seems to be around the 700-800 mark when transmission is running, even if not seeding. My tcp timeout is 120 seconds, and this number rarely leaves this range, so either this connections are being kept active, or as they time out new ones are being created.

Couple bits of new information:

This is also happening on 1.75 and on the latest builds.

This doesn't seem to be happening on my PPC G5 running 10.5.8, It is definitely happening on my Intel MBP running 10.6.1.

Perhaps this is a snow leopard issue? I don't have another Intel running 10.5 or I would try to check that, perhaps someone else does?

I'm not seeing this behavior.

Here's what I get in my "torture test" config, with lots of torrents and a high peer limit:

[charles@localhost ~]$ lsof | grep transm | grep TCP | wc --lines
95

Are you positive these are TCP connections, and not UDP entries in your firewall/NAT tables?

What happens when you disable the DHT globally?

I wouldn't exactly describe this as a torture test but

gtsotsos:~ gtsotsos$ lsof | grep Transm | grep TCP | wc -l

238

It's not as high as I had described before, but still high considering, these are all private torrents, so I don't think DHT should be in effect? Correct me if I'm wrong and I'll try again

  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

I'm still only seeing between 100 and 150 in newer builds.

Even the 238 you described is within Transmission's global peer limit.
