Description

reported by Danny Piccirillo downstream @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/492675 --

Many users, such as myself, are still using Deluge, and have torrent files they'd prefer not to abandon (i have nearly 300 that i'm seeding), so some way to import data from Deluge would be ideal.

What about adding other clients into this ticket? Migration for µTorrent on Mac? Ktorrent? Vuze? Well, this seems like it could get pretty big if you add other clients. Maybe a dynamic library or external application whose sole purpose is to migrate to Transmission?

I like this idea though.

IMHO, this should be done with scripts available from the wiki, not built in.

The more I look at this, the less appealing it seems. Deluge uses a native python serialization format, which doesn't seem to have a decoder implemented in C anywhere, so I'd need to write that myself. In addition Deluge has changed file formats at least once, so there would be multiple formats to support.

This might make more sense as a python script that plugs into Deluge itself, rather than something built into Transmission.

It doesn't have to be built into transmission, but perhaps a separate tool could be created. It doesn't matter how this is implemented, just so long as there is a migration path. The ugliest solution, if it comes to that, i suppose would be to just be able to extract torrent files from deluge and have the user select where they're located
