#2930 new Enhancement

Reworked Tracker Error Display

Reported by: stdisease Owned by:
Priority: Low Milestone: None Set
Component: Transmission Version: 1.90
Severity: Normal Keywords:

The way tracker errors have been handled is to display a message in Red under the Torrent's title, regardless of how many trackers are in the list and how many of them are working.

Suggested enhancement: Since the introduction of the Trackers list in the Properties dialog, error messages could be delegated to that list, and a message in the main window (a bit esthetically unpleasing, distracting, and overly alarming) should only be displayed when there is just a single tracker or when all of them are failing, or some other criteria to be determined.

Sorry, didn't see this issue before I posted #4275! Anyway, just bring across some of my notes, #4275 was basically proposing differing icons depending upon the severity of an error, to distinguish between major errors that prevent a torrent from proceeding, and minor ones that are probably temporary or unlikely to completely halt progress.

I think a major issue would be something like all of the known trackers returning errors, and no known peers found via other means (DHT, cache etc.).

It might be worth classifying errors depending on different factors as well, for example if the errors are timeout related then it could just be a network issue or temporary down-time rather than as severe an error as the torrent not being found. Similarly, it might be good if the errors can be classified based on the proportion of errors; i.e - if more than half of the trackers are returning errors then that's a lot more severe than just one or two returning an error.

Hasn't this been fixed already? That is, no error message is displayed in the Main Window if the torrent has 1 or more working trackers.
