Description

Transmission's current interface is great, has been refined over the years, and is a central part of what makes Transmission Transmission. It should remain the default and primary interface.

However, it clearly was cloned from the old mainline GUI, and many users have argued, many times, that this makes the interface a bottleneck to managing large numbers of torrents. That's why the interfaces of KTorrent, Deluge, uTorrent, and Halite are all so similar.

I propose that for 2.0 we add a third view -- as a sibling to the "minimal view" -- that shows a multicolumn table for that set of users.

Users should be able to configure which columns are present in this view.

Transmission is not a clone of every other client. It is defined by its layout of only the most essential information and, its key interface element, the huge progress bar. The design goal has always been to be lightweight, and adding in a whole new interface (that would require a new window design since the current design is for short width) goes 100% against what was originally set out to do. I am all ears for ways to make the minimal view more friendly to people with huge lists, but making Transmission just another client with a copied feature set that looks like everything else will not happen while I am still on this project.

not while I am still on this project.

Well, okay, the polite approach didn't work.

Since feature parity between the Mac client and the other flavors of Transmission has never been a concern to the Mac developer, I won't keep beating my head against that particular wall.
