#3007 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

"Sort Transfers by" in dedicated toolbar rather than only nested within menu bar

Description

It would be nice if the current menu bar item "Menu > View > Sort Transfers By" would be directly accessible either in the "Filter Bar" between the torrent-transfer-state-filters (All Active Downloading Seeding Paused) and the search field or in its own bar, depending on how much screen estate to be spent.

Variant 1: "Sort order pop up menu" plus "Reverse" Toggle Button added to filter-bar

Group Filter Symbol | All Active Downloading Seeding Paused | Sort Asc/Desc?-Symbol | Search Field

If you click on "Sort" you get the same content as within the menu "Sort Transfers By" except "Reverse Sort Order". The symbol for ascending is an arrow pointing down, if you click it, you toggle to the descending mode, represented by a arrow pointing up, clicking it again toggles. Maybe my arrow orientation makes less sense, the opposite may make sense as well. Or simply only show the item "Reverse" either selected or not (graphically indicated, currently achieved with the darker/lighter background).

Variant 2: "All sort order items" plus "Reverse Toggle Button(s)" within the filter bar or in its own bar

The sorting options are not in a submenu, but rather all top level items, either within the filter bar, or in an own bar, if screen space is tight. Advantage: Then even only 1 click needed for changing the sorting options!

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

I tried to work these in the filter bar, but there is no room. Adding a whole new bar is out of the question - way too much bloat. As it is now, you can go to the View menu or the window's action gear menu. That's going to have to do.

Variant 1 would only need 6 more characters! The string "Sort", a space, and a arrow up or down. Am I convincing?

Can you get me a mockup. I tried adding a little more to the bar - there's just not enough space.

I created the mockups in all different variants with self descriptive filenames.

I appreciate the effort, but those are all way too much.

Only showing the separating bar + Current-Sorting-Option + Arrow-Up/Down? can really not be considered "way too much" concerning screen estate.

I guess the time I spent on the mockups is almost equal to the time necessary to make the changes in the interface plus the bindings to the appropriate objects/functions.

Please go for it! Except if you really oppose my suggestion interface-wise.

The bar is already pushing the limits for space without being overcrowded, and sorting is not filtering anyway. The current menu item there now is sufficient.

As I really needed both filtering AND sorting quickly at my fingertips, I found a workaround, which I want to share here!

I simply used: Mac OS X > System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts.

There I created modified keystrokes for Transmission by simply assigning easily memorizable keystrokes to all sorting related menu functions.
