transmission downloads portions of files I've unselected in the torrent

Description
When I select only some files from a torrent, Transmission downloads portions of files that have been unselected... For instance, if I select only 1 file to download, Transmission gets sometimes 35% of certain other files...
I'm using 1.76 (9117) as distributed by Ubuntu.
I really like Transmission as a BT client... it's simple and small-footprint... I sure hope you guys can figure this one out. It's also been reported in the Ubuntu launchpad.net tracker:
