#3096 closed Enhancement (fixed)

Tracker errors push DL/UL speed out of window

Component: Mac Client Version: 1.92

When trackers return error messages, it pushes the download and upload speed away, often out of the window. Could you add some way of hiding them, since they are already available in the inspector? Or just cut them off if the window is too small instead of cutting off the UL/DL? I already think the placement of upload/download speed is odd, since its important but it's not always in the same place, based on what information is displayed in front of it. I get why it's not in front (it would cause all of the other text to move around whenever speed changes, which is often) but it's definitely not in the most user friendly location.

I really like the layout of the minimal view, but it doesn't tell me anything (%, time remaining) so I can't use it. Why not put the speed in the top left next to the torrent name all the time? Another idea would be to have tracker status (errors; downloading from x out of x peers) on the left and DL/UL on the right, with status getting cut off if there was too little room. These options might look odd, so if you want to keep the current (IMO, very awkward) placement of info you could just have it say "Tracker returned an error" under the torrent and then only have the full message show up in the inspector. Or, even better, cut off the tracker errors when they start to push UL/DL out of the window. Anything to make it not hide speeds for info that doesn't really matter would be great.

Also, I am using the OS X version, can't remember how different the UIs are since I haven't used Linux in awhile but I think this applies to both.

  • Component changed from Transmission to Mac Client
  • Owner set to livings124

The GTK+ / Qt clients aren't affected by this -- tracker errors are ellipsized when they reach the status text on the rhs.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

r10432 handles this by truncating the line in the middle instead of end.
