#3180 new Enhancement

IPv6 Blocklist Support

Reported by: x190trac Owned by: charles
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: libtransmission Version: 1.92
Severity: Normal Keywords: blocklists, ipv6, DHT
Cc: kenyon@…

Description

Recently IPv6 connectivity has been promoted for use with IPv6DHT by jch in the Transmission forum. I for one have taken up the challenge, however, to open up my firewall and enjoy the full benefits of this increasingly relevant technology, IPv6 Blocklist support needs to be implemented. I understand PG2 already has this capability so it must possible. I'm thinking of Transmission having the ability to check IPv6 addresses against the equivalent bluetack blocklist entries. Soon, more IPv6 Blocklists will be available, so Transmission should have ability to parse these as well.

"Why Teredo blocking is important

All Windows Vista machines come with a service known as "Teredo" enabled by default. This enables you to access the IPv6 internet using IPv4. It also means that any IPv4 user can masquerade as being on IPv6 in attempt to evade IP blockers and firewalls.

PeerGuardian? fully detects these types of IPv6 users and will check them against the regular blocklist."

Could we at least get support for 6 to 4 connections, i.e. the ones that easily convert from IPv4 to IPv6 (2002: type) addresses and vice versa. These are the only type I get anyway, likely due to symmetric router. Normally I'm connected to both IPv6 and IPv4 for the same peer, so if peer is blocklisted in an IPv4 blocklist, then do a simple conversion and block the peer's IPv6 connection as well.
