#3414 closed Bug (invalid)

Hide/quit behaviour

Reported by: vinc-mai Owned by: charles
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: GTK+ Client Version: 2.01

Description

It would be great if Transmission exits when clicking the gtk window cross instead of hiding the window in the notification area. (I am always wondering which application uses my connection after a click on that cross!)

An option to choose the behaviour would be even more appreciated I think.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Closing the window, but not exiting, is how other applications in the notification area behave too. That's why the window manager -- not Transmission -- give that X a tooltip label of "Close window" instead of "exit application."

I think changing this behavior would confuse more people than it helped.

One alternative that you can do is to turn off the notification area icon in Edit > Preferences > Desktop. That way closing the main window will close the application.

Thanks for your quick reply.

First, I do want to use the notification.

Second, almost all applications I used (ie Xchat, amule...) exist when clicking on the close button. Lifera has an option to choose the behaviour.

In Gtk, you need to connect a callback to the delete event in order to exit. Something like g_signal_connect( win, "delete_event", G_CALLBACK( exitFunction )... I guess in tr_window_new function. (I am not used to c langage and to transmission project).

I hope to ypu will change mind about this particular issue. The choice between exiting and hiding the window means to me.
