#3468 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

qt client (toolbar) should integrate within kde desktop

Description

One of my favorite features of qt applications within kde, is the ability to right click on the toolbar of any application, and be able to modify the layout - including icon size, and eliminating text. I'm attaching a SS of a typical right-click option from a toolbar, showing off the simple menu.

I know that the qt client isn't specifically geared towards KDE, but it would be pretty cool to allow this flexibility if the client is being used within KDE. It would make integration much nicer, especially since KDE users are probably the biggest consumer of the qt4 client.

Is there a way to do this without adding KDE library dependencies?

Replying to charles:

Sorry, I'm not sure to be honest. I would suspect not, though. Would it be possible to detect if it's running from within a KDE environment, and use native widgets and buttons if so?

While the QT4 interface is definitely a huge improvement, obviously, to running nicely in kde4, it still sticks out like a sore thumb compared to other kde apps. If it's not easily hackable, feel free to close the bug.

What are the problem points, other than the toolbar context menu?

This is it, for my tastes: that I can't choose icons without text, or smaller / larger icons.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

It looks like this would require changes to the UI designer file, and things are autogenerated from there. So this would be nontrivial wrt detecting at compile time whether or not KDE is supported.

I'm going to close this as for now... but the idea of integrating with KDE better would be good if we can figure out how to do it without sacrificing portability to other OSes
