I'd wish to suggest to add a possibility to add more than one 'watch directory'.

In what situations would this be useful?

comment:2 Changed 11 years ago by styx

Here is my situation:

1) I have a Dropbox account with folder: Torrents

2) I have a Downloads folder where Opera saves files on 'quick download' (no save dialog)

When I'm near computer which downloads torrents I'd wish to have Downloads folder be watched. And when I'm away from computer I'm using Dropbox to add files automatically (web interface is unavailable for me and Dropbox variant is simpler). Instead of Dropbox it can be ftp share.

  • Milestone changed from None Set to Sometime

That makes sense.

This doesn't sound like a must-have feature, but I can see where it would be useful sometimes.

Hello! This is important feature for advanced users! For example, I have some folders:

/mnt/torrents/music /mnt/torrents/video /mnt/torrents/series etc.

I save .torrent files in this folders. After download my client move files in same storage: music, video, etc...

Now I use rTorrent. This clieтt can do that. But I want migrate to transmission because it`s fastest progress.

The folder monitoring is OS independent? Where is implemented?

folder monitoring is OS dependent, unfortunately.

See transmission-daemon for a mostly-standalone implementation that will work well on Linux, and fall back to work reasonably well on other platforms.

This blocks #3607.

Today I made a patch for multiple watch directories ( for daemon only ). It's very dirty but working; I sent it to info@ mail, so check if you need it.

Many patch solutions has been sent, but there seem to be a consensus on keep transmission as a "very simple / very light torrent client" only. How this feature is not present 5+ years after first ticket + numerous tickets, beats me. This (all related) tickets should be either solved or closed once and for all instead of having tickets pointing at each other with block comments and leaving it at that (nice deadlock). Any automated setup that requires any semi-automatic interaction now and then needs this feature for efficiency (e.g. automated scp to remote headless server). rtorrent, deluge, qbittorrent +++ all has this feature. Now, make a decision already.

I agree with koala. I am unfortunately having to move away from transmission due to this. I have been happily using it for almost 8 years now, but need this feature for my automation the way I have everything configured. I imagine I will come back if this feature is implemented, just hope it is soon.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
