#3819 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

Three-Finger Swipe for Scrolling

Reported by: Lusankya Owned by: livings124
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: Mac Client Version: 2.13
Severity: Trivial Keywords:

The current Transmission torrent list doesn't appear to support skip-scrolling to the top or bottom of the list using up or down three-finger swipe gestures on Macbook Pros and other modern Apple peripherals. It's a minor request that's hopefully trivial to implement in the Mac client. :)

I'm not familiar with this - I can't see where this exists with my Magic Mouse. It seems like something that would be implemented at the OS-level, though. Could you point out where this functionality exists?

I'm not certain where the functionality is implemented; I imagine it's an event triggered by OS X that needs to be handled by the client. Three-finger swiping seems to behave differently in different programs, so it can definitely be customized by the program. Safari and most Apple-provided apps use vertical swipes to jump to the top and bottom of a document, and horizontal swipes to page back and forth through history, folder hierarchy, etc.

Apple has an article describing the different gestures here:

I have no experience writing interface code, and to be honest, I prefer working on the server side of server-client models. Hopefully someone who wants learn some GUI programming could use this to cut their teeth.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

I can't find anything in the HIG about this. I'm hesitant to add something that should be basic behavior to the table - we're not doing anything special so the OS should be in charge of this. Anyway, I am not aware of any public APIs that can allow for this. I don't believe there's much we can do on our end, so I'm going to close. Please reopen if more information is available.
