#3905 closed Bug (invalid)

Transmission's build directory is not easily relocatable

Reported by: jch Owned by:
Priority: Lowest Milestone: None Set
Component: Transmission Version: 2.13
Severity: Normal Keywords:

Description

$ make
CDPATH="${ZSH_VERSION+.}:" && cd . && /bin/bash /usr/local/src/transmission/missing --run aclocal-1.11 -I m4

Note the absolute path; because of that you cannot easily move the Transmission directory around, you need to re-run autoconf.sh when you do (and that takes ages).

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

This behavior is standard in autotools packages. It appears in four out of four packages I tested:

$ grep "^ACLOCAL = " Makefile
ACLOCAL = ${SHELL} /home/jordan/T/missing --run aclocal-1.11
$ grep "^ACLOCAL = " Makefile
ACLOCAL = ${SHELL} "/var/tmp/curl-7.21.2/missing" --run aclocal-1.9
$ grep "^ACLOCAL = " Makefile
ACLOCAL = ${SHELL} /var/tmp/gtk+-2.91.7/missing --run aclocal-1.11
$ grep "^ACLOCAL = " Makefile
ACLOCAL = ${SHELL} /var/tmp/libevent-2.0.10-stable/missing --run aclocal-1.11

So this issue appears in transmission, but is not a transmission issue. You may want to report it upstream to http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/#bug

This ticket should be marked as "other-package" but trac doesn't have that option.

"Invalid" doesn't convey the right meaning, but is the "least bad choice" available from trac. :/

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
