#4057 closed Enhancement (invalid)

Total transferred bytes should be displayed in powers of 2 rather than in base 10 units

Description

I am using Transmission 2.20 on Mac OSX 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard). When I click the "Statistics" window, the displayed total seed ratio (6.52) does not match the displayed total uploaded bytes divided by the displayed total downloaded bytes (1.478 TB / 226.3 GB = 1.478*240 bytes / (226.3 * 230 bytes) = 6.69). In fact, the ratio does not even match if we use the non-standard definition of TB = 1012 bytes and GB = 109 bytes (this gives a ratio of 6.53).

This problem of incorrect seed ratio is observed in all aspects of the user interface: Both in the "Statistics window," and in the transfer window. Global (discussed previously), individual torrents (21.29 GB / 117.2 MB is displayed as a ratio of 181, when it should be a ratio of 186), session ratio (2.18 GB / 848 KB is displayed as a ratio of 2576 when it should be 2696).

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

The Mac client on 10.6 displays units in base 10. When you say using base 10 gives you closer, but not the same, numbers, it is because of rounding when displaying to the user.

  • Keywords transferred bytes added; seed ratio incorrect ratio removed
  • Resolution invalid deleted
  • Status changed from closed to reopened
  • Summary changed from Displayed total seed ratio does not match total transferred bytes to Total transferred bytes should be displayed in powers of 2 rather than in base 10 units
  • Type changed from Bug to Enhancement

Thanks for the explanation, livings124. I'm re-opening this as an enhancement request rather than a bug because the most common definition of MB, GB, TB, etc. is in powers of 2 rather than in base 10 units. I couldn't figure out how to modify the description, so please feel free to do so.

Sorry, but we're following Apple on this one. The app should respect how the operating system and built-in apps treat these values.
