Reported by: deanr Owned by: charles
Priority: High Milestone: 0.95
Component: libtransmission Version: 0.94

Description

Transmission 0.90 is ignoring the global upload limit that has been set, with only 5 torrents open that were still being downloaded the upload limit was set to 10 KB/s, transmission reported on the dock icon that it was uploading about 15 KB/s but iStat pro (ill be happy to try other network monitoring soft if requested) was reporting 24-30 KB/s upload rate

Tried nightly build r3549 and the issue is still there, with an upload limit set to 1 KB/s transmission reports about 5 KB/s and I see 24 KB/s in iStat saturating my connection

I'm seeing the same sort of thing with 0.90 - upload limit is set to 12 KB/sec and Transmission itself toggles between 19/30 KB/sec and MenuMeters? shows around 25 KB/sec with no other net traffic from other apps.

I saw this in the run-up to 0.90 compiling it myself from svn, although haven't tried the latest code.

I'm seeing this as well with r3556.

After playing with it a little, it seems that if the speed limit is something that can be set in the OSX GUI from the small gear menu, (5, 10, 20, 40, 50, 75, etc) the limit will be somewhat adhered to. A 5 kbps limit will show as being 4.8-5.6 kbps, which is close enough. A 4 or 6 kbps limit will show as popping up to about 9.6-11.2, with iStat Pro showing about 15-18 kbps in use.

Also, two torrents seeding while the 5 kbps limit is in place will both seed up to the 5 kbps limit, seeming to be more of a per torrent limit, rather than a global one.

Somewhat related: I have noticed that 0.90 under OSX has stopped reporting things like .5 kbps, it's always a multiple of .8 kpbs. .8, 1.6, 2.4- Could this be linked to the difference in speed limits?

I have the same problem with the latest build (3895). The interface shows the correct limit (5 kB/s) but MenuMeter? shows 22-26 kB/s and I barley can send eMails while trannmission is active. (I use Leopard 10.5.1, DSL 2000/256, AVM Router)
