#4267 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

Global Public Trackers

Reported by: t0mm1e Owned by:
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: Transmission Version:
Severity: Normal Keywords: global public trackers

Description

Ability to create a global tracker list in de global preferences.

Add a checkbox setting to each torrent to include all the global public trackers to increase availability of torrents.

This also allows removal of trackers that have gone offline without the need to alter tracker lists of possibly many separate torrents.

Change History (4)

I like this idea, but I'd also suggest allowing specifying patterns since some trackers use many subdomains. So the defunct piratebay trackers could be specified as '*.thepiratebay.org'.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

This doesn't make sense to me. If a tracker isn't included, it's likely not found at the tracker site. And this would be used by few - and by many incorrectly. This seems like bloat at a minimum, a broken feature at worst.

There are many open trackers that even advice to publish to many open bittorrent tracker to increase availabilty.

From a personal experience, swarms (I like to seed documentaries to increase public knowledge) increased by as much as 2 to 3 times to the benefit of all. I've also had to remove many broken or closed public trackers. I suppose I have increased the general availability of those documentaries a lot (though know not the exact inner workings of bittorrent to be sure).

To me it would be a powerful but indeed somewhat 'dangerous' feature I can concur. I accept of course you think it's not useful enough, but at least it has been mentioned and please accept that this would be a useful feature for power users.

Thanks for clearing that up. I see your point, but I do think the mix of confusion and the small user base make this not worth while.
