#4424 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

I would really like if there were a "Quit upon completion" feature like Utorrent on my old Windows PC had.

Description

So really all i want is one littlee feature that i don't think anyone would oppose or that you guys would have any trouble making. The idea is that Transmission will quit itself after finishing the last torrent in your list. Utorrent for PC a couple years back had that feature and i loved it, but have yet to see it on any Torrent app for Macs :) anyways, just a suggestion! thanks!

You can currently set the app to stop transfers when they reach certain seeding criteria - this is similar except the app itself is still open. Quitting itself I believe is overkill.

HI,

I would like to support Tbpooley and ask you to reconsider, after searching the forums I found previous users asking for this option. Yes, I have set the criteria as you suggest livings but I think some of us have their systems setup to run in this fashion.

I download my torrents and then have them run until my seed criteria are met. This means they usually run into the night. I have my iMac running pleasesleep application. This way the computer doesn't go to sleep or shutdown while transmission is running. If I could quit transmission once my seed criteria are met then the computer could shutdown/sleep and use less power. It's less about transmission than the overall use of the computer.

I tried to add a script after download complete but of course wrote it as an applescript before checking the web site ;-( . As I have no idea how to write another type of script I gave up on that path.

I have no clue how difficult it might be to implement and if it's too complicated that's fine maybe we can add it as a script? Again only a suggestion and feedback. If I may ask why do you feel quitting is overkill? I would assume that most people like to quit their applications during nonuse to reduce strain on their systems. I would presume this would open system resources (ram) especially on older systems.

I defer to more knowledgeable people on that subject but purely from a user standpoint I can see some benefits.

Cheers,

Phillyman

I understand the argument and the use case, but this still seems like overkill. Having the app stay open with no active transfers is pretty comparable to not running at all, as no activity will allow the computer to still be put automatically to sleep. Leaving Transmission open should use little to no system resources, and scripts can be designed to do custom behavior (check the built-in help for script information).
