#4751 new Enhancement

Animate group icon when torrent is demagnetized

Reported by: collegeitdept Owned by: livings124
Priority: Normal Milestone: 3.00
Component: Mac Client Version: 2.42
Severity: Normal Keywords:

If you try to stay organized and have multiple torrents downloading and seeding in multiple Groups... Once a download (or 2 or more) completes, a number badge is displayed in the dock.

The user goes to Transmission and makes it active to clear the badge from the dock. However, there is no temporary number badge displayed also on the corresponding group. The user doesn't know which torrent has completed. A little number badge next to the expand/collapse triangle on the left of the Group header would be a huge help for the user.

Also, it would be great for Transmission to also display a temporary green check-mark on the torrent itself in the main window list. (The check mark would disappear once the user views the torrent after expanding the Group or switches out of Transmission (making another app active).

This seems like overkill to me. Growl/Mist? notifications give information on finished transfers without adding too much extra info to the main table.

Growl wont help in this situation... Its the same as a badge icon in the dock. Once you switch to Transmission... how does the user know which Group it is organized in?

A visual queue would be a huge help.

It's not overkill to at the very least place a number badge indicator on the Group header (next to the expand/collapse triangle) that will appear only when there's a newly finished download. The badge will disappear once user makes another app active.

(Maybe the checkmark next to each download is overkill… but the badge indicator for the relevant Group is NOT overkill).

The reason why this will help is for users who want to then choose "Show in Finder" but cannot find the newly finished download because there are multiple groups.

This will be a HUGE help.

Thank you.

The more information in the main window, the less helpful that information becomes. Growl notifications can be clicked to reveal files in the Finder.

No understand the trade off of too much stuff in the main window... Choosing Show in Finder was just one example... Maybe one would want to change the seed settings for that one file... or maybe remove it or change move it into another Group... An indicator would a big help to provide a visual clue to which group the newly finished file resides in currently.

Maybe even the have the badge icon only appear for only 10-15 seconds (then fade away) after the Transmission window is brought into the front most window (even if the user doesn't expand that group). So that it will be of less things in the main window.

If that's still too many elements in the main window... What about simply having the background of the Group row header glow/pulsate in a light transparent blue/Aqua??

Again this will help bring Transmission to more Lion like with more visuals and animations. And it this visual clue would also be very helpful to the user.

It might be possible to do simething once we switch to view-based table views when Transmission is Lion-only.

Great!!! I can't wait!

Would that be Transmission 3.0 timeframe? If so I will certainly monitor the progress.

Again, I can't stress the deep appreciation of the Mac community to the Transmission developers on creating a truly awesome Mac program.

  • Milestone changed from None Set to 2.90
  • Summary changed from Newly Finished Download indicator in Group heading & on Torrent List to Animate group icon when torrent is demagnetized

Pulsing the icon the same way #5148 is the most consistent solution.

Not just pulsing the torrent icon - but also pulsate the Torrent Group header (if it belongs to one - and if the group is collapsed). User should be able to know which Torrent Group had a transfer complete successfully.

Also this should be released in time for Yosemite. New interface for OS X should warrant an update to the interface in Transmission.
