Networks hangs on Mac OS X

Description

During the last months I've had stability problems with Transmission that I attributed to being writing to an external USB drive. Today I've started using my internal 128GB SSD to download four files of about 2GB each. After some minutes downloading at the maximum speed of my ADSL connection, Transmission suddenly stops working, although the UI still works. All network connections stop working and I have to hard reboot my Macbook by pressing the Power button for some seconds. This has happened me four times this afternoon.

I've tried reducing the total number of connections from 1000 to 600, but I've just had the same problem.

Is this a problem of Mac OS X not being able to handle the network activity?

I've been looking at the registry and I don't see any suspicious message.

Any hint?

Miguel
