Description
Using transmission-daemon 2.51 (13280) on Lubuntu 12.04 i386, I was not able to download any files until making changes to the debian-transmission user account. The download directory is set to /home/rena/video/.temp (an external disk). Even changing permissions on this directory to 777, transmission-daemon gave "permission denied" errors trying to write any file here, until I added the user to the group which owns this directory. The daemon also crashed a couple times when it was not able to write the downloaded files to disk.

I'm not able to repeat this.
If Transmission is crashing for you in 12.04, you should use its bug reporting tool apport to report a problem -- it's got a built-in mechanism for generating a backtrace from the crash.
