#504 closed Bug (invalid)

0.94 beta - Confusing error display

Description

My router supports UPnP but not NAT-PMP. When 0.9x (this repros on r3959 and earlier) launches, it attempts to traverse NAT using both methods. In my environment UPnP succeeds and NAT-PMP fails. In Prefs->Advanced, this results in a conflicting and therefore confusing display where the user sees both a green dot with "Port is open" and a red dot with "Error mapping port".

For users without the wherewithal to look in the message log and determine that both statements are actually true, this is likely to yield some consternation in the forums.

My suggestion would be to suppress the error report in the Prefs window unless both port mapping methods fail and the port isn't otherwise already open. I would, however, leave the error entry in the log, since it's useful to know which port mapping scheme worked and which didn't.

  • Milestone changed from None Set to 1.00
  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

In trunk the second status was eliminated, so it will just show "port is open".
