Description

Forwarded from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=684088 (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=671029 - transmission-gtk: Crashes when opening preferences for previous reference)

Package: transmission Version: 2.52-3 Severity: important

This bug is related to the previous one I opened some time ago (#671029) Finally, I managed to get the problem another time : the file settings.json is now 92Mio. It is available at http://jeremieburtin.fr/transmission

If you open it, you will see there are only ~110 lines. But some old settings were using the folder "Téléchargements" (Downloads). é character is written "ÃÂ..." in the file, and it seems like each time it is opened/saved, the number of "ÃÂ..." is like multiplied by 2.

Thanks for investigating this

 • Version changed from 2.52+ to 2.52

Is this repeatable with Transmission 2.71?

This was corrected in version 2.70 for Transmission-Qt, which you reported in ticket #4759. If this is a similar problem with Transmission-GTK then you should state the component as such (and then its a different issue).

See ticket #4760 for the Qt client fix.

Since there was 2 similar reports, #4759 never got closed, but the problem with foreign characters is fixed.
