#5378 new Bug

torrent properties affected by automatic change of focus

Reported by: stephenmw Owned by: jordan
Priority: Normal Milestone: None Set
Component: Qt Client Version: 2.77
Severity: Normal Keywords:
Cc: mikedld@…

Description

Using transmission-qt 2.77 on Debian Wheezy.

Conditions:

The active torrent filter is set. I have a torrent selected and I am setting its properties. Then, the torrent stops uploading to people and no longer satisfies the active filter.

What happens:

The focus is removed from the torrent in the main window. The torrent properties window becomes unbound to any torrent. I cannot set options or view information about the torrent.

What should happen:

The torrent properties window should not lose the focus even if the main window does.

From what I could see on 2.82 (latest stable), Mac, Qt and web clients work this same way, allowing only one torrent properties dialog to be displayed at a time, which acts as currently selected torrents properties dialog, this being the very reason of dialog becoming useless once there are no torrents selected. GTK+ client, on the other hand, allows for multiple torrent properties dialogs to be displayed at the same time, each showing properties of one or several torrents, disregarding what is currently selected in the list.

For me, either way is totally fine (I'm the GTK+ client user actually). The question is, I think, how does current behavior relates to corresponding UX guidelines.

The focus is removed from the torrent ... I cannot set options ...

Actually some options can be set, but they act on all torrents, which is never what the user wants.

For instance, it has happened to me while changing seeding limit.
