Downloading to near empty large hard drive fails with 'No space left on device' error

I have a 4TB hard drive and Transmission fails to download directly to it with a 'No space left on device' error.

What filesystem are you using on this drive?

It is NTFS with the NTFS-3G driver.

Ensure that your driver is up-to-date. A startpage search shows many similar issues. Suggest you reformat to HFS+, if possible.

And please don't open bugs where Transmission has nothing to do, i.e. the error comes from the operating system, Transmission treats all file systems the same (and not all file systems work the same, FAT32 and NTFS have size limits, file name restrictions, etc.)
