On Apple's Software Update available notifications there are two buttons: Details and Update. Hitting Details will bring Transmission into the foreground and display the Sparkle window containing information about the update.

As I recall, Sparkle windows will stay hidden if the application is not in focus. Thus you could start Transmission in the morning, and then in the afternoon there would be an update, but you won't know of it until the Transmission comes to the foreground. So having Notification Center tell the user of updates sounds good to me.
Though thinking about it, this is a feature that should be moved into Sparkle itself.

- Resolution set to wontfix
- Status changed from new to closed
This would make more sense in Sparkle itself. I'm not really keen on hacking any more into that framework. You should submit upstream.
Why?
Notification Center doesn't offer the detailed information that Sparkle does, and doesn't provide the user the ability to update automatically.
