#5541 new Enhancement

Apple's Voiceover screen reader for the Blind doesn't fully work with Transmission

Description

Voiceover is Apple's answer to how the blind use computers. However, it doesn't completely work properly with Transmission. Most of the app reads properly, I.E. all the preferences, the toolbar at the top, and the buttons with the App, read with Voiceover. However the list of torrents that you've added doesn't.

Transmission version: 2.8.2 (stable) on Mac OS X (tested on 10.6 through 10.9)

I'm not a programmer so I don't know much about it, but I think there's some sort of "accessibility" tools within Xcode that help developers fix issues like this.

I'm really getting sick of uTorrent and would really like something other than that to use, plus I think this is a cool project.

I'll even test stuff for you if you need it.

It looks like Voiceover does reach the text in the cell, just not more information for the buttons. Besides saying what the buttons do, what would you suggest changing?

ah, that I did! Let's try that again!

Interestingly, actually using Voiceover doesn't show stuff in the files list in the add torrent Dialogue or the transfers list. Oddly enough, it says there are three columns in both of these tables. In the files box, the first column reads as "unknown", the second reads as nothing, and the third column reads as a checkbox, which I'm assuming is correct. In the transfers box, Columns 1 and 3 read as just "unknown" and the middle one reads as "image". Some sort of Icon or something? But I can't get any info about the name of the torrent that I'm looking at, size, seeder info, etc. As for the buttons, simply labelling them should be fine.

I'm not sure what's going on, but it's odd.

I know this seems hard to understand, as many debs and just people in general have no clue how this stuff works. By no means am I discounting your programming prowess, in fact you do good things!

Anyway, get back to me with any info. if you need me to send a video or something I might be able to oblige.

Thanks a lot in advance, guys. I know this seems like a petty personal request, but I know other blind people who would like to use this client as well.

Thanks again and sorry for the rant.

A video would be very helpful! I've been testing a bit with voiceover today, but the main window seems to work as I would expect (although I have no experience with this feature).
