Description

When adding torrent via web interface or watch folder (via RSS feed) it does not start automatically. Transmission reports that it is "verifying local data" however the torrent never starts. When app is brought into focus, the torrent immediately starts. See thread: https://forum.transmissionbt.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15807

Occurring with Transmission 2.82 on Mavericks 10.9.2.

Any movement on this? This is a pretty major breakage in functionality.

Ok, so I did a little more testing on this. This is happening when the user account is logged in (and transmission is running in the background) but at the Login Window via fast user switching. When this is the case, either uploading a torrent to the watch folder or adding via the web interface results in extremely slow "verifying local data" that could take days to complete (I never let it go long enough to see if it actually starts). I was able to replicate this many times.

I also forgot to mention, when I re-enter my password at Login Window to resume the session, the torrent starts immediately.

Really.. no comment from a developer?! Is this even being looked at? This is a pretty major bug for Mac.

If you could post precise details on all the ways known to reproduce the issue, and then a possible patch to the source code I think one of the developers would eventually respond positively.

  • Version changed from 2.82 to 2.83

I do not remember how I started my story, but at least this problem is present in 2.82, 2.82+ and 2.83 on OSX 10.9.2 and 10.9.3.

Video: http://youtu.be/DnokmkzufrA (720p)

How to reproduce the error:

  1. The Connect to Server OSX
  2. Close Window Transmission (click on the red cross)
  3. Remove from the focus of the program Transmission (click the mouse on the desktop)
  4. Close the connection to the server OSX
  5. Wait 2 - 4 minutes (required step, maybe more)
  6. Open Web interface Transmission
  7. Choose a torrent file and try to upload it
  8. Observe that the verification is very slow

That is exactly my issue; I guess fast user switching has nothing to do with it. The key here is that Transmission must not be in focus.

  1. Find Transmission in Finder,
  2. Press Cmd+I
  3. Ckeck «Block AppNap?»

without reboot
