Why on earth would you make so difficult that it takes me 20 minutes to submit a simple comment on your product? I am so frustrated right now that I almost want to never use your product again. That being said, my only request was to say that: "the frequent updates are a bit of an annoyance and don't seem to do anything".

To give that simple piece of feedback has indeed taken me more than 20 minutes, given your complicated registration process, and the fact that I need to register at all. I own a software development company myself, but making it THAT difficult to leave any feedback is ridiculous. We thrive off the feedback of our customers, as should you. I've never been so torn as to whether to quit using such a great product or not.

Sincerely, A customer who cares.

(Note that I am not in any way affiliated with the Transmission Project.)

  1. Signing up here on Transmission Trac or on their forums shouldn’t anything near 20 minutes.
  2. Frequent updates: nobody forces you to update. Other users appreciate frequent fixes and additions.
  3. „Customers“: I would assume the project doesn’t have them but users instead. Nobody pays except for donations.

I think the description of 20 minutes is exaggerated. Even so, the main "barriers to entry" for reporting a bug via trac are user registration and the moderation queue. These barriers exist for privacy and spam concerns, respectively:

If we were to allow, say, OpenID, FB, and Twitter logins as other sites do, then we could avoid the extra step of user registration. However, Transmission's users tend to be very privacy-conscious and so we don't offer cross-site user accounts.

In addition, our website's Trac software is apparently an 'easy target' for spammers and people writing linkbait. Adding moderation to the bug tracker is the only approach we've found to avoid this.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
