#5756 closed Enhancement (wontfix)

Transmission should be able to be set to exit when downloads are finished

I'm wishing that Transmission could be set to exit when all downloads are finished. I believe I saw this function in ktorrent.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Download a torrent-file to the desktop.
  2. Open the Transmission gui.
  3. Here's where you open the Settings window and check a box that makes Transmission exit when all or the active downloads are finished.
  4. Start the download.
  5. When the download is finished Transmission-gui should close by itself automatically.

Note: I reported this Enhancement as well in my dists bugzilla and here's the link:

Some design questions and my answers:

  1. What does "finished" mean?

The same as it does in the filter in the main window.

  1. Where should the checkbox be?

Under Preferences -> Seeding, next to the boxes that define what a finished torrent is.

One more thing: What should happen the next time the program is started? (We can't let it shut itself down immediately.) One option may be to keep the program alive until one torrent is not finished, but I don't know what the states of the torrents are when the program is starting, so it may not be that simple.

We may also want to show a dialog for 30 seconds and let the user cancel the exit process.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

JoelSjogren? points out some good issues. I think the benefit isn't worth the complexity.
