#615 closed Bug (worksforme)

losing wireless network connection

Description

this bug has been around for several version, it was fixed at some point, but now is back in full force;

wireless connection drops, no connection to base-station. only way to recover is to restart.

in the forums it has been discussed that it could be due to exceeding the network speed. i've found that not to be true, it drops even when speed is limited to well below network capacity.

it seems to have everything to do with number of available peers, the more peers there are on a certain torrent, the more likely the connection drops

i've set it to highest priority, as the bug has been around for several version, and it is what effectively makes it impossible use this, otherwise wonderful, software.

my setup;

  • powerbook, pismo with apple wifi card
  • os 10.4.11
  • apple base-station, software version 5.7

Have you tried setting a lower number of peers total (in the advanced preferences) and per-torrent (in the inspector)?

i've lowered the number of peers from the default 75 to 25 per torrent and will leave the torrent running today. we'll see tonight if i still have a network :S

thanks for the suggestion

btw so far i was running latest release versions. now have 1.01/4635 from the nightly builds, which still has the same problem.

lowering the number of peers from 75 to 25 has kept transmission running so far - 13 hours, which is a lot more than it used to reach with the same two torrents running

good workaround, would be more elegant if the deamon itself would not cause the wifi network to go haywire :)

thanks so far

network was lost after 25 hours with the above mentioned changes. problem persists, it seems to simply happen slower or later...

Is this still occurring in 1.05?

  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

This seems to be an isolated issue on that setup, and with this info there's not much we can do to even be certain Transmission is causing the issue.
