#6155 new Enhancement

Ktorrent priority file order feature on Transmission

Component: Transmission Version: 2.92

Description

Ktorrent client has a very good feature in the the download order of the files in a single torrent, that changes automatically when the files are being completed.

In details: for example: a single torrent comprises of 4 files. With the Ktorrent feature on, the downloading priority of the files changes automatically over them when the first file finishes.

Ex:

  • File1: priority: high, 99% downloaded.
  • File2: priority: medium, 0% downloaded.
  • File3: priority: low, 0% downloaded.
  • File4: priority: low, 0% downloaded.

Then File1 finishes, and then automatically the priority order changes over the files:

  • File1: priority: high, 100% downloaded.
  • File2: priority: high, 50% downloaded.
  • File3: priority: medium, 0% downloaded.
  • File4: priority: low, 0% downloaded.

Then I will have File1 and File 2 ready to be used, instead of 4 incomplete files.

PROS:

  • When there are few seeders it is better to have some files on hand than nothing. Some torrents remain incomplete forever.
  • The code has been developed and it is public (Ktorrent, KDE).

CONS:

  • More resources, but this should be an on/off option.
  • In order to avoid file preference on the same files, when the priority changes over the files, it must be random among them.
